What IfÖLetís Do It!

A Victory for Gendered Bridgebuilding

On September 15, 2009, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton swore in Farah Pandith as the nation’s first Special Representative to Muslim Communities. Secretary Clinton detailed the US’s efforts to seek a new beginning with Muslims around the world, forming a relationship based on mutual interest and mutual respect. Special Representative Pandith will play a key role in the process of promoting dialogue and diplomacy that focuses not only on terrorism and radicalization but also on finding commonalities.

Special Representative Pandith expressed her commitment to realizing “the potential of partners that aren’t always the most obvious,” and to finding new connections to affect positive change. She aptly summed up the new attitude in the State Department: when she joined State, discussions beginning with “What if…” became “Let’s do it!”
